As part of Passageways growing, there have been a few new Pathfinders added to the team. I asked that three of them describe themselves and what being a part of Passageways has been like so far.
Hello, everyone! Matt Holmes, here. I’m one of the newest additions to the Passageways Support Team. I’ll gradually be taking over for Trent Brouillette as he transitions into his new role with the company. Steven asked me to write a post about my experiences with Passageways thus far, so heeeere we go!
I come fully equipped with an extensive tech-savvy background. At least, that’s what my resume tells me. Anything from personal computers, cell phones, networks, or software… I’ve fixed it! My most recent experience in this field is with a Verizon Wireless Agent, (Sorry, iPhone users).
My fellow Pathfinders are jokesters, pranksters, and all around fun people! I’ve known some of them for a little while before getting hired on. Mostly through our Friday Night Game Night, where I get trounced upon in dorky computer games like Starcraft, or Team Fortress 2. Others, I have been good friends with for quite some time. I knew Passageways was a perfect fit for me well before I even applied.
My first official day with Passageways was our annual Company Picnic at Happy Hallow Park. Pasty, pale nerds like me usually shun sunlight entirely, but what a way to join an organization! Having a fun outdoorsy day! I even won an award for “Best Desert 2010” for my Caramel Apple Crisp Dessert (inquire within for recipe!) =)
The migration into my new role with Passageways has been a little overwhelming, to be honest. I think a little bit of that has to do with the big shoes Trent wears. He handles everything quickly, accurately, and easily… He intimidates me, but don’t tell him that. He doesn’t read this, does he?... The Portal software is awesome! There are so many things it can do, which makes learning all the modules (inside and out) a little time consuming. I’m eager to get in there and help start fixing stuff!
There’s my story! If you’re someone who submits support tickets with any sort of regularity, we will probably get to know each other. I can’t wait to get into the swing of things and start being helpful! I’m excited to be a part of an organization that genuinely cares about their staff/product/services, as well as having fun. Passageways Rocks!! Thanks for listening (reading?) to my brief history of experiences thus far.
My name is Sara Owens and this October I joined the Passageways team as their Customer Care Assistant. I graduated this past May from Purdue University with a degree in Human Relations Communication, a minor in English and also a minor in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. Some of my previous work experience includes being a Resident Assistant at McCutcheon Hall, waitressing at Monical’s Pizza, and conducting research on interpersonal messages. This is my first “real job” and I am excited to begin my career at Passageways.
I first applied at Passageways based on a chance meeting that I had with one of their employees. After looking at their company website and learning more about Passageways through several visits and interviews, Passageways seemed like a fun company to be a part of. Their emphasis on customer service and the fact that they knew most of their customers on a personal level, provided me with enough reasons to want to join their team. I liked how Passageways understood how important maintaining a strong and positive relationship with their customers was to the success of their company. Another reason why I chose to work for Passageways was that their future looked great; they were regularly generating new products, updating their portals, and acquiring new customers. Passageways was, for me, the perfect place to work for.
I have been with Passageways for two weeks now and my experience has been great! The energy and creativity of everyone who works here is awesome. Everyone works together so that customers’ problems are solved as quickly and as accurately as possible. We also all get along so well. Between the Nerf gun fights and the various pranks we play on each other, the days fly by. Seriously though, whenever we have a question or need help learning how to use the portal, we can ask anyone and they are willing to help us. Those of us who just started working at Passageways already feel like we are a part of the team. Even though we are new, we know that our opinion is valued and that we are an important part of the company. I am happy that I chose to be a Passageways Pathfinder!
Hello, I'm Aaron Madrid. It’s only been two weeks, but I already feel at home here at Passageways. I have had quite a variety of jobs since I entered the job market all those years ago. From retail management, to construction management, to my most recent endeavor as a third-shift healthcare employee, my experiences have taught me a great deal. Work, for me, has always been a means to an end. What I mean by that is, I worked hard, so that I could afford to play hard. I think a lot of people probably do the same. My true passions have never been a part of my work life in earnest… that is, until now. I love technology. I love learning about the latest gadgets, the newest software, video games, smart phones, etc… if it takes batteries or plugs in, more than likely I want/have/have seen it. To be able to come to work and spend all of my time working with, and talking about, all of the things I love, is an incredible feeling. In two short weeks, I have realized just how much I have been missing out on.
My incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful co-workers have all helped me to feel welcome here. Despite the full schedules, someone is always quick to answer my questions. Even the development team, who are always hard at work (most of these guys won’t even take a lunch), will stop what they are doing to show me a thing or two. I have used some Portal software in past work enviroments, but have been astounded to see just how much our Portal software can do. Learning all the in-and-outs of the software has been both challenging and exciting. As I sit and play with the Portal and all the modules, I find myself thinking of all the places I have been that would benefit from such an expansive software suite. The possibilities are truly endless! My wife worked in the banking industry, until recently, for about 10 years, and is starting to get annoyed when I come home and try to sell her a Portal with a new feature I worked with that day. With a team as excited and dedicated as this one, it will truly be amazing to see how far we take things.
In short, I am excited to be here, and eager to get to work. It’s an amazing feeling to wake up and and not dread coming to work. One that, hopefully, I won’t ever take for granted. Sometimes you have to have had the worst to really appreciate the best. I’m not sure that I have had the worst jobs ever, but I certainly can say that this is already the best. I look forward to getting to know our customers and becoming a Passageways Pathfinder.
